Kallakurichi Assembly constituency is located in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Kallakurichi Lok Sabha constituency. The seat has historically witnessed electoral contests involving the major Dravidian parties, particularly the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), with regional outfits occasionally playing a role in shaping the outcome. In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,64,140 electors, of which 2,13,719 valid votes were polled. AIADMK candidate Prabhu A won the seat with 90,108 votes, defeating DMK candidate Kamaraj P, who secured 86,004 votes. The victory margin stood at 4,104 votes, indicating a closely contested electoral battle between the two major Dravidian parties. Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,17,252 electors, with 1,78,906 valid votes recorded.
